Here at the New Hope After School, we offer a structured martial arts program, which includes traditional International Tae Kwon-Do Federation forms, self-defense techniques and tactics for children ages 4 – 12. As the student progresses with their training, they will test for their next belt rank, in accordance with the rules & regulations of our Tae Kwon-do Federation. Tae Kwon-do training emphasizes both mental and physical discipline. It instills in the student focus, confidence and respect toward themselves and others. It offers the very positive physical and health advantages of a regular exercise program. We provide a structured training environment in which students practice, grow and develop personality. After only a few classes students become aware of exactly what is expected of them and that discipline will be kind but firm. Structured practice, consistency in training, patient instructors and kind discipline will instill a feeling of trust, security and respect within the child. Students learn how to be aware of their environment, understand & recognize dangerous situations and how to deal with them. Students also learn how to deal with bullies and what to do when confronted by strangers.

Let’s dance like a star! These classes teach the fundamentals of hip hop movement. They are upbeat and high energy classes. A small performance opportunity will be given on the last day of the session.
Our Visual Arts classes offer creative activities that are the building blocks of a child development. Students will develop the ability for creative thought and action in a fun and challenging environment. Classes include a quickly paced examination and demonstration of visual arts fundamentals with exposure to different mediums. Projects are inspired by master artists like Monet and Kandinsky, beginning the exposure of students to art history and art appreciation. Classes are structured in increasingly challenging projects and mediums from Art I through Print Making. Even if your little artist is already using a medium, each student gets the attention they need to achieve a greater mastery as they grow in ability. This session also allows the opportunity for students to participate in a showcase at the end of each session. Their Art will be incorporated into the visual aspect of the program so that their art can be enjoyed by everyone. Artists of all levels are welcome in our classes!
